  10.      What is a BLACK BOX?   A BLACK BOX
  11. is  a device that is hooked up to  your
  12. fone  that fixes your fone so that when
  13. you get a call,  the caller doesn't get
  14. charged for the call.  This is good for
  15. calls  up to 1/2 hour,  after 1/2  hour
  16. the Fone Co.  gets suspicious, and then
  17. you can guess what happens.

  19. The way it works:
  20.  
  21.      What  this little beauty  does  is
  22. keep the line voltage from dropping  to
  23. 10v  when  you answer your  fone.   The
  24. line is insted kept at 36v and it  will
  25. make  the  fone think that it is  still
  26. ringing while your talking.  The reason
  27. for the 1/2 hour time limit is that the
  28. Fone CO. thinks that something is wrong
  29. after 1/2 an hour of ringing.

  31.      All  parts  are  available   Radio
  32. Shack.   Using the least possible parts
  33. and arangement,  the cost is $0.98 !!!!
  34. And  that  is  parts for two  of  them!
  35. Talk  about  a deal!   If you  want  to
  36. splurge  then  you can get a  small  PC
  37. board,  and  a switch.   There are  two
  38. schematics  for this box,  one  is  for
  39. most  normal fones.   The second one is
  40. for  fones  that don't  work  with  the
  41. first.  It was made for use with a Bell
  42. Trimline touch tone fone.

  81. recommend  using.   It  is neat and  is
  82. very easy to hook up.

  103.      Once you have hooked up all  the
  104. parts,  you must figure out what set of
  105. wires  go to the line and which  go  to
  106. the fone.   This is because of the fact
  107. that LED's must be put in, in a certain
  108. direction.  Depending  on which way you
  109. put the LED is what controls what wires
  110. are for the line & fone.
  111.  
  112. How to find out:
  113.  
  114.      Hook  up the box in one  direction
  115. using one set of wires for line and the
  116. other for fone.
  117.  
  118. *NOTE*  For Model I switch should be
  119. OFF.
  120. *NOTE*  For Model ][ switch  should  be
  121.         set to side connecting the led.
  122.  
  123.      Once  you have hooked it up,  then
  124. pick up the fone and see if the LED  is
  125. on.  If it is, the LED will be lit.  If
  126. is  doesn't light then switch the wires
  127. and try again.  Once you know which are
  128. which  then label  them.   *NOTE*  - If
  129. neither  directions  worked  then  your
  130. switch was in the wrong position.   Now
  131. lable   the   switch  in  its   current
  132. position as BOX ON.

  134. How to use it:
  135.  
  136.      The purpose of this box is not  to
  137. poeple  who  call you so it would  make
  138. sence  that  it  can only  be  used  to
  139. receive! calls.   When the box is  *ON*
  140. then you may only recieve calls.   Your
  141. fone will ring like normal and the  LED
  142. on  the box will flash.   If you answer
  143. the fone now, then the LED will
  144. light and the caller will not be
  145. charged.
  146. Hang  up  the fone after you  are  done
  147. talking like normal.   You will not  be
  148. able  to  get a dial-tone or call  when
  149. the  box is on,  so turn the box  *OFF*
  150. for  normal calls.   I don't  recommend
  151. that you leave it on all the  time,  as
  152. you don't want it to answer when Ma
  153. Bell calls!
